Ideas for Noun Review with Elementary Children

Posted

  • Songs - Children may listen and sing along to the songs on the Montessori Spanish Music CD.
  • Pictionary - Hold up each noun card in a theme, say the word, and have the children repeat. Place all the cards on the floor so the children can see them for the duration of the game. Have a child come up and choose a noun he wishes to draw without revealing the word to the other children. As the child draws the picture, the children watching may raise their hand and guess the noun.
  • Guessing game - Hold up each noun card in a theme, say the word, and have the children repeat. Place all the cards on the floor so the children can see them for the duration of the game. Have a child choose a word and count the number of letters in the word without revealing it to the other children. For example, if the word he chooses is la oruga the child will draw 7 lines on a board or piece of paper. The other children will raise their hand and guess a letter. If the children have learned the Spanish alphabet, they may guess the letter in Spanish. When a correct letter is guessed it is written on the corresponding line. When an incorrect letter is guessed it is written in the corner of the board or piece of paper. As the lines are filled in the children may guess the word.
  • Bingo - Have the children make bingo boards by folding a blank sheet of paper into a grid of 8 or 16 boxes, depending on how many words you will be using. Hold up each noun card, say the word, and have the children repeat. Place all the cards on the floor so the children can see them for the duration of the game. Have the children write a word in each box on their bingo board. Tell the children they can put the words in any order they wish. Once the children fill out their bingo boards, call out any noun from the cards on the floor. The children will cross out the box on their bingo board containing that word. When a child is able to cross out all the words in a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line on his bingo board, he may call out, “Bingo!” You may wish to continue playing until each child is able to call out, “Bingo!”
